The population of Russia - from whom he allegedly stole his wealth - don't seem too keen to prosecute him and get their money back.

'That may well be, but he still has to be given a chance to answer the charges.'

He hasn't been charged with anything and he hasn't been arrested. His UK assets have been legally seized and he can appeal the seizure.

'From what I can see the process is heavily weighted against anyone contesting these sanctions.'

I should hope so. If it was easy for multi-billionaire oligarchs and crime-lords to get lawyered up and contest such seizures for years then the law would be entirely pointless.

I hope his legacy will be the closure of Chelsea, testament to the excellent stewardship of the FA and the Premier League. I remember the days when they couldn't pull 11000 fans to a game.

I surprised not one of these oligarchs has tried to have Putin rubbed out, they have more to lose than most and it's not as if they don't have the means.

Re: Roman Abramovich
Goose,

I think you’re making that often made error of refusing to just hold your hands up and so you got it wrong.

You started off with the suggestion that he had no legal recourse, when it was pointed out that he has got the right to make a legal challenge, you pivoted to him not being able to afford it.

There’s nothing wrong with just holding your hands up every now and agin

From what I can see the process is heavily weighted against anyone contesting these sanctions.

They have also threatened sanctions against legal companies that have helped out these Russians in the past.

Goose.

It would be extremely difficult for him. Mostly because he hasn't got a case.

goose 3:46 Tue May 17
Re: Roman Abramovich
I might be wrong, but the way i read it was that the lawyers cannot accept payment from him without the licence being agreed.

the article i read said it would be "extremely difficult" for him to find a way of legally challenging sanctions.

Re: Roman Abramovich
Of course he has money. Only a fraction of what he did have, but he still has access to hundreds of millions of dollars.

goose 3:19 Tue May 17
Re: Roman Abramovich
Not my words - that's what I read.
He has no way of paying for all this at the moment.

If you're a lawyer would you accept delayed payment with no guarantee? We're not talking a few quid here.

Hermit Road 3:09 Tue May 17
Re: Roman Abramovich
Goose,

Are you going with that?

Abramovitch can’t afford a lawyer, and no lawyers would work for a delayed payment for one of the richest men in the world

goose 2:44 Tue May 17
Re: Roman Abramovich
He can challenge the decision but is unlikely too because he has no money to do so.

He would need a special licence from the Treasury to pay the lawyers or any court fees.

I hope you're talking about Abramovich, and not Pickled, roltrader.

It'll be far more believable if it is Abramovich.
